Ashley Anderson
Ashley started dancing at the age of 2. She started with ballet at the Alexander Community Centre. She danced there for the next 14 years, embracing not only ballet, but also pointe, jazz, tap, baton, lyrical, contemporary, modern and hip hop, At the age of 16, she began to teach. She won numerous top scoring and overall awards, but most importantly fell in love with the "Community aspect of dance". After 32 years of growing her love for dance at the Community Centre, she decided to branch out and share her love for dance with others and, in 2016, she opened D.A. Studio. She is a mother of 2 and works full time for the federal government for a Deputy Minister. She continues to teach, learn and grow in the evolving dance world, while providing the same opportunity to others at an affordable rate and with the same laidback, inclusive environment she grew up with.
Kathleen Carkner
Kathleen started dancing at the age of two with Silver Slippers and at the age of five, she was offered a position on the competitive team with Dance Alliance. She has trained in the disciplines of jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hiphop, baton, ballet, tap and musical theatre, being awarded numerous top scoring soloist awards and received the title of “Performer of the Year” at the Dance Canada competition in Ottawa in 2008. Kathleen began teaching at Dance Alliance in 2006 and started teaching the competitive team in 2008, accumulating numerous overall awards for her choreography over the years. Kathleen continued dancing throughout university, further exploring the genres of contemporary, lyrical, jazz, and hiphop. She also choreographed for Queen’s University Dance Club, teaching classes of up to 40 university students. Outside of the studio, Kathleen graduated with her Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University in 2013 and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Ottawa in 2017. She now works as a lawyer in a boutique personal injury law firm and spends most of her free time travelling or playing with her adorable pets.
Piper Lopes
Piper graduated from the Canterbury dance program with distinction in 2017. She was a competitive dancer for over ten years. She has trained in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Modern and Musical Theatre. Winning many awards including the Ottawa Thunderbolt solo 2017. She is studied Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa and graduated in 2021. She is currently in her Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Ottawa, set to graduate in August 2024. She has continued her passion for dance by teaching and doing choreography since 2016.
Kienna Gillon
Kira Leahy
Kira has been dancing with DA since she was 3 years old. Training in Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, Musical Theatre and Hip Hop. Through her years of dancing, she received many awards for her technique and performance ability, including 3rd highest scoring solo in 2019, and multiple special awards. She completed her Dance Arts Diploma from Canterbury High School with distinction in 2021. She has been teaching since 2022, and has received recognition for her choreography through special awards and the Intermediate Choreography award in 2022. She is currently completing her Biomedical Science Degree at the University of Ottawa, with future plans to study medicine and healthcare. Kira continues to teach and provide a foundation for the future dancers of DA.
